On the third trip of the Backyard Trails, we travelled to Mount Parker in Hong Kong Island. Located in Eastern District, the most populous area out of the four districts of Hong Kong Island. Mount Parker spans from Chai Wan to Shau Kei Wan and Quarry Bay which has always attracted many residents in the neighbourhood and tourists to visit. There are many routes on the mountain, including major trails such as the Hong Kong Trail and Sir Cecil's Ride; in addition, an asphalt path has been paved to reach the Civil Aviation Department’s radomes at the peak from the bottom of the mountain. There is also a road to descend from Quarry Pass to Tai Tam Reservoir.

Mount Parker is lined with greenery and has many streams which nurture countless living creatures. The countryside indeed hides the story of Hong Kong’s industrial development in the past. Some century-old buildings have disappeared over the years, leaving only traces, and marks of wars of Hong Kong at Mount Parker. Hong Kong developed rapidly after the wars, and its population significantly increased. There are myriad of lights below Mount Parker but the mountain itself remains a land of natural joy.
This time, we invite Wa Ka Cheong, the editor-in-chief of Hiking Wind Fire Magazine to accompany us to walk into Mount Parker. You are also welcomed to join us to experience this backyard trail and listen to the ups and downs of our city.
