As we enter into 2021, we want to look back at 2020 and take a moment to appreciate our TrailWatch community for documenting your journeys to and experiences in Hong Kong’s trails and countryside with us.
We also take this opportunity to provide you with a quick review of TrailWatch in 2020.

The most frequent incident that you reported to us was related to waste dumping and destruction. Did you send us a report in 2020? If so, you can check the progress via your Dashboard in the App under “My Report”. When you send us such incidents, our team will review and verify, and if it is an incident that falls inside the country park, our team will notify AFCD.

As we were unable to meet you face to face this past year, instead we organised two webinar series with speakers from various conservation, outdoor education and community organizers. Both series covered a range of topics such as biodiversity, trail maintenance and accessible trails. If you want to revisit them, our recap is here, or watch some videos such as on birds and dragonflies.
Without a doubt, Hong Kong’s nature has been invaluable as more people went to country parks. Walking, hiking, running, and being able to listen to sounds of nature and to breathe in fresh air has been one of the best ways to maintain our physical and mental well-being, and we enjoy hearing your stories of your footprints on the hill. Aside from going out to nature yourselves, we also brought you sounds of nature so you can listen and meditate from indoors.
Hong Kong’s nature should be enjoyed by all, as such, we promote more diversity and inclusion in the hills and encourage protection of the trails, including sustainable hiking practices and trails maintenance. One of the simplest ways we can all help as a fellow hiker, is to engage in good hiking etiquette and practices, that ensure yours and others’ hiking safety for a better hiking experience for all. If you want some fun in preparation for your hiking experiences, don’t forget to download Megaphone and Trashformer stickers, available for WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal!
Regardless of when you started using our App, we hope you have enjoyed our product. If you filled in our recent in-app survey about your experiences with the App so we can continuously improve – thank you!
We hope you continue to use the TrailWatch App to track your activities, and photograph Hong Kong’s landscape and biodiversity, all of which can help us remember and document some of Hong Kong’s best natural assets. We look forward to working with you in 2021 to collectively monitor, maintain and manage our parks and trails for Hong Kong!
