Name: TrailWatch x Save Lantau Alliance : From Rural Planning to Lantau Tomorrow Vision
Date: 4 May 2019 (Sat)
Venue:Pui O to Shap Long

In the morning, more than a dozen participants set off from Pui O, walked along with the sheltered wetlands of buffalo, and witnessed how the coastal reserved area failed to protect from destruction. Thanks to the detail explanation by Eddie and Carmen from Save Lantau Alliance, we know more about the legal loopholes, and how the Hong Kong government cannot effectively regulate the serious situation of illegal constructional waste dumping. After that, we go to the seaside of Shap Long, sharing more about the “Lantau Tomorrow Vision”, and have a deeper understanding of the planning and conservation of Lantau.
Before the end of the tour, everyone went to a farmland at Shap Long and cleaned up a huge amount of rubbish left behind by the typhoon mangos teen. Following the method of waste PET beverage container survey, we took away 22 bags of garbage, including over 100 of plastic bottles and more than 1,400 plastic covers. Not to mention there are plenty of slippers and different types of plastic trash. The cleaning up of the countryside can in addition to avoiding the buffalo and other animals eating plastics waste. We hope all participants will try to reduce the waste during their suburban activities after experiencing the countryside clean up. At the same time by considering how we want to live; we will also consider how we can conserve tomorrow's Lantau and care about Hong Kong's conservation issues more.
