A Recap of the TrailWatch Webinars

During May and June, we held a total of six webinars on nature conservation and unconventional hiking experiences. Let’s playback the highlight of the event now.

How did you spend your time at home during the epidemic? It’s a pity that TrailWatch was unable to hike and seek with you. However, we were still connected online! During May and June, we held a total of six webinars on nature conservation and unconventional hiking experiences. Let’s playback the highlight of the event now.

There is always a group of secret guardians contributing to and protecting nature quietly behind these beautiful and biodiversified hiking trails. Those works include the monitoring of each tree, conservation and maintenance of hiking trails, and general monitoring in the countryside. These important — and often thankless tasks — enable trails and Hong Kong’s countryside to be presented to us at their best. Kami (The Conservancy Association), Andrew (World Wildlife Fund for Nature), Vivien (The Green Earth) and Johnny (Liber Research Community) shared their multidimensional experiences in the webinar series.

Kami Hui introduced the conservation work done by The Conservancy Association in tree monitoring, and species that are of conservation concern

WWF (HK) Andrew Chan explained the importance of wetlands to Hong Kong, and problems created during the destruction of Hong Kong’s countryside

The Green Earth Vivien Cheng explained the precautions to be taken during trail cleanup and the problem of concrete path in Hong Kong

Liber Research Community Johnny Lau explained the life and work in rural areas using locally sourced ingredients for his lunch

Is hiking only suitable for adults or those who are strong? Of course not! Hiking is an activity suitable for all people. William (Nature Bathing), Teddy (Oasistrek) and Sarah (Wheel Power Challenge) shared outing experiences with hikers with different ages and physical conditions. Children, elderly or even wheelchair users can all enjoy nature. Everyone can be a hiking master with sufficient preparation beforehand and by choosing a compatible trail to hike along.

Nature Bathing William Tsang introduced games designed for children to communicate with nature and its importance

Wheel Power Challenge Sarah and Oasistrek Teddy introduced how to discover suitable hiking trails for wheelchair users

“I don’t dare to admit I can definitely do it, , but I will try, because I just WANT to hike.” Wheelchair user Terry

“Everyone is welcome to enjoy the nature regardless of their age,” Nature Bathing William

It is not only professionals who can contribute to the protection of our natural environment, we can all be part of it and it starts from ourselves. TrailWatch once again thanks all of our guests for sharing and everyone for participating in our webinar. Please stay tuned to TrailWatch and join us to protect the nature, and together enjoy the delights brought by it!
