Note from Megaphone: Hands off!
The warmth of spring brings the flourishing of flowers, here comes the season of bloom again. After visiting the Chinese silver grass and autumn leaves, many hikers are ready to take action and go outdoors to appreciate flowers. When seeing the rainbow colours of the flowers, many can’t stop themselves from observing the blossom up close to take photos. At these moments of beauty, taking photos with phones and cameras and sharing with friends and family, so that more people can enjoy the natural scenery is, of course, a great thing. While seeing alluring details, it is best to view it with your eyes and store it into your mind, be sure not to pluck and take away any plants. It is best to learn and practice the sixth code of Leave No Trace, which is to “Respect nature” by keeping a distance and remaining silent. Touching and plucking plants are both not advisable. According to the Country Parks Ordinance (Cap. 208) and Forestry Regulations (Cap. 96A), it is specified that all trees, flowers and rocks on government land are owned by the government. Without authorisation, no one is to take away any government property or plantation. Violators are seen as unlawfully possessing other people’s private property. Furthermore, when flowers bloom, they attract insects to pollinate and produce the next generation. Your casual act might have long term damages to the environment. Next time when you go on a flower appreciation trip, remember to keep your hands off, so that more of us and other beings can enjoy nature!
