Stream Hiking in Summer

Avoid hiking near streams after heavy rains, instead, wait for a few days as a buffer.

Note from “Megaphone” – Stream Hiking in Summer

Many hikers, like Trashformer, are fans of stream hiking during the hot summer days because of the comfortable breeze. However, during the summer monsoon season, typhoons and heavy rains are not uncommon. We should avoid hiking during poor weather conditions. Even if the sky has cleared after rain, we should still be extra cautious.

There is more preparation needed for stream hiking than usual hiking. Besides paying attention to the weather of that day, one should also see if there was a rainstorm the week before. If so, hikers could very likely encounter strong water flowing down the stream, even with decent weather conditions, and it is dangerous due to possible landslides and floods. Also, the precipitous valley makes it much more difficult for rescuers to arrive should an accident occur.

In fact, for less experienced hikers who want to hike while feeling some breeze, reservoir trails are a safer alternative. Even experienced hikers should be cautious of the weather conditions from the previous week while planning any routes that pass by waterfalls and mountain streams. Avoid hiking near streams after heavy rains, instead, wait for a few days as a buffer. Be a safe hiker!
