Note from Megaphone – Listen to Trees

“Bring Your Litter Home” is a well-known slogan, but have you thought about the other kinds of destruction in the mountain that are not visible?

We believe that many people are just like Megaphone: when on a ride, they would enjoy listening to radio, music or even watch dramas. Many hikers are used to turning on the speaker to play music and loudly sing along to enhance their experience. Although Hong Kong has many excellent local musicians and singers, it could violate the regulation when playing music in the mountains.

The Country Parks and Special Areas Regulations Cap. 208A, Prevention of nuisances 1(g), states “No person shall within a country park or special area to the annoyance of any other person operate or play, or make any sounds on, any musical or other instrument, including any gramophone or radio apparatus, or sing any song or shout.” Any person who contravenes the regulation commits an offence and is liable to a fine at level 1 and to imprisonment for 3 months.

In fact, despite the regulation, nature is home to many wildlife and a place where everyone can rest and enjoy. How about trying to listen to the chirps, the breeze and the stream on your next visit? You might find it chillaxing.
